Building and Engineering Based on BIM Standards as the Basis for Transforming Infrastructures in the Digital Economy

Abstract


This article examines the transformation of infrastructures in the digital economy. The paper includes examples for construction and digital railways. The digital railway projects have become a key for a very large number of countries and international associations. Many of them are already implemented as a matter of priority. Even their partial implementations lead to the huge shifts in logistics, industry, and life styles of regions and cities. Construction is a "horizontal" industry, which has significant interaction with many other sectors. The paper examines the defining role of BIM (Building Information Modeling). Initially, BIM models, which described the entire life cycle of a construction project, were applied only in the construction industry. Currently, the application of BIM is on the rise in many other areas and, especially, in the projects related to infrastructures.
